DIY Guide: How to Measure Your Glasses
Follow this simple step-by-step guide to measure your eyeglass frames accurately and find the right fit when shopping for glasses online.
Find Your Ideal Frame Size
Use a pair of glasses that already fits you comfortably as a reference for your measurements.
You may find three numbers printed inside the temple arm. These usually indicate the lens width, bridge width, and temple length. However, the overall frame width is typically not listed. Follow the steps below to measure it yourself.
Measure the Overall Frame Width
Measure straight across the front of the glasses, from one outer hinge to the other.
Measure the Lens Height
Measure vertically from the top to the bottom of the lens at its deepest point. For bifocal or progressive lenses, a height of at least 30 mm is generally recommended.
Measure the Bridge Width
Measure the narrowest gap between the two lenses. For a comfortable fit, choose a bridge width within 2 mm above or below your measurement.
Measure the Temple Arm Length
Measure from the hinge to the bend, then continue from the bend to the tip. Add the two measurements to get the full temple length.
Measure the Lens Width
Measure straight across the lens from one side to the other at its widest point.
Check for the Right Fit
For a comfortable fit, choose frames with a total width within 2–3 mm above or below your measurement.
